Pain Management @ COR

Pain Management and Injured Workers programs are conducted at the Southport and Taringa clinics and range from individually tailored programs to specialised group programs.

Group programs:

  • Pain Management and Injury Rehabilitation options
  • includes advisory input by an Orthopaedic Specialist with extensive experience in managing complex musculoskeletal injuries and persistent pain presentations
  • behavioural assessments - physical, functional and cognitive
  • following Diagnostic Pain/Injury Formulation on day 1 candidates are progressed to further 2 or 3 day programs involving both multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary services.

The Clinical Coordinator is an Occupational Health Physiotherapist with Post Graduate experience in Persistent Pain Management and Rehabilitation Conditioning.  The intensive intervention consists of Pain Specific Clinical Psychology, Exercise Physiology, Physiotherapy and Occupational Health components.

On completion of either intervention, all disciplines consult to devise individualised recommendations for participants. These recommendations are outlined in a report by the Clinical Coordinator and forwarded to the relevant Case Manager/Customer Advisor and/or Referring Medical Officer immediately for due consideration and/or approval.

Any further medical or allied health interventions are then undertaken on an individualised basis with the candidate, in consultation with the candidate and other relevant stakeholders, and once receiving direct approval from the relevant Case Manager/Customer Advisor/Medical Officer.

These interventions generally span a six to twelve week period to ensure consolidation, further refinement and/or application of cognitive-behavioural, motor-control, ergonomic and/or functional skills learnt from the initial intervention, being specifically applied to each candidate’s particular environment.  Whilst not featuring as part of the short-term intervention, we have onsite Occupational Therapy and Dietetic providers which may be suitable to incorporate into specific interdisciplinary services devised for certain candidates throughout the post-clinic period on an individualised basis.

This integration of providers and combination of group/individual interventions was developed in accordance with best practice evidence based guidelines.
